Summerplace and the hosts Barry & Johannes are hard to fault really, but as a miserable so'n'so by nature, my instincts are to try and find something negative to say. So having racked my brain, the only criticism is, that due to the hosts insistence on offering wonderful breakfasts and dinners, and despite swimming every morning in the lovely pool and going on 8k trecks through the local hill's, I have arrived home 4 lbs heavier, which has messed up my strict diet.
So for this reason, I could not possibly recommend a stay at Summerplace.
Wonderful and truly professional hosts, a rustic and stunning location, great food and immaculate rooms and facilities are all well and good, but if you have to go back on the cabbage soup diet when you get home, it's a hard price to pay!!
Seriously, Gaby & I want to thank both of you for a truly wonderful stay. You are both Stars, and we will be back
again soon.

Lieber Johannes, lieber Barry!
Wir haben den 9-tägigen Aufenthalt in Eurem Gästehaus sehr genossen dank der ausgesprochen liebevollen und persönlichen Betreuung.
Das Gästehaus ist ein besonderer Ort, abseits von jeglichem Touristenstrom. Ruhig gelegen, sehr sauber, gediegenes Ambiente, es lädt einfach zum Wohlfühlen ein. Auf das Frühstück haben wir uns jeden Tag gefreut, Barry ist ein sehr innovativer "Eierkoch" und Johannes Marmeladen und Bananenbrot sind unübertrefflich.
Vielen Dank für Eure Gastfreundschaft, man fühlt sich willkommener Gast - und reist mit einem sehr guten Gefühl ab.

You have a great guest house in Summerplace and your service is perfectly balanced between formal and informal to create a wonderful atmosphere. Not to mention the cleanliness, the breakfasts, the views, the dinners ….. We may well be back next July!

Man merkt sehr deutlich, dass dieses Guesthouse keine "Arbeit" fuer Euch darstellt, sondern dass Ihr es mit Leidenschaft und viel Liebe betreibt. We came to Madeira for some winter sun...It did n´t quite work out like that...
We have had huge waves, strong winds and truly biblical rainfall! When we lost the electricity Barry and Johannes made huge efforts to boil water for coffee on the log-burning stove!
Now as I pack I realise, of course, that it is the people who make a holiday - not the weather!

We don't have any "enjoyed most" list, because it was all great - the breakfast spreads which included fresh fruit salad and home-made yogurt, the spectacular views overlooking the ocean, the fresh(er) air up on the hillside, the infinity pool in the quiet garden, the levada walks close by, the comfy rooms with great beds, and the great hospitality of Barry and Johannes who thought of everything to make our stay a memorable one, yet everything in simplicity and elegance.
I highly recommend taking advantage of one of the dinners that are served on request 3 evenings per week; these guys are wonderful company and set a fabulous table in their elegant sitting room. The food would make it onto the list of any great restaurant.

Hallo Ihr beiden,
auch wir wollen uns fuer die schoene Woche bei Euch ganz herzlich bedanken. Wir sind gekommen um zu entspannen und zu wandern. Ersteres hat prima geklappt, letzteres ist ein wenig ins Wasser gefallen.
Wir hatten selten so gut und so viel gespeist - und das in warmer Atmosphaere, einfach Spitze. Nebeneffekt ist, dass wir einiges an Gewicht zugelegt haben - und deshalb nocheinmal wiederkommen, um es abzuwandern.
Bis es soweit ist, werden wir uns an den leckeren Eierspeisen probieren und an Euch denken!

Es war eine wunderschoen Zeit bei Euch. Leider sind die 2 Wochen fast um und wir muessen heute schon wieder packen.
Wir sind schon viel gereist, aber haben uns nur selten so wohl gefuehlt, wie bei Euch beiden.
Abgesehen von dem tollen B&B, dass Ihr fuehrt mit allem Komfort, den man sich denken kann, der tollen Aussicht vom Zimmer und der Terrasse und dem super leckeren Fruehstueck, seid ihr zwei so total nette und herzliche Menschen, die sehr viel zu erzaehlen haben. Trifft man leider nicht sehr oft.

Tjaa - was schreiben, was nicht schon andere vor uns so treffend hier drin festgehalten haben...? Also: Unsere Vorfreude auf Madeira Summerplace war enorm gross und ueberaus intensiv - und wir wurden nicht im geringsten enttaeuscht!
Mit Neugier, Offenheit und Johannes' guten Tipps im Rucksack und natuerlich gestaerkt mit dem herrlichen Schlemmerfruehstueck inkl. Barry's feinen Eierspeisen, haben wir diese spannende und vielfaeltige Insel jeden Tag wieder neu und immer ein bisschen mehr entdeckt.
Die herzliche unkomplizierte und feinfuehlige Gastfreundschaft von Barry und Johannes, die bis ins Detail liebevolle und aufmerksame Gestaltung auf allen Ebenen, dazu gehoeren auch die erstklassigen Abendessen in romantischer Atmosphaere, all das hat es uns leicht gemacht, mal so richtig abzuschalten, einfach die Seele baumeln zu lassen.
Wir verlassenn Madeira mit einem lachenden und einem weinenden Auge: weinend, weil die 2 Wochen so schnell vergangen sind und wir ein ganz spezielles Stueck Welt und liebe Menschen verlassen, lachend, weil, gestaerkt an Leib und Seele, bereichert um jede Menge neue Erfahrungen und enorm viel schoenes im Gespraech.
