There is something that cannot be written into guide books or posted on internet sites: a good guesthouse will have atmosphere! And Summerplace really has a wonderful feel to it. From the welcome to the goodbye you always feel at home. The lounge and music is very relaxing, the meals are wonderful with great company, and Barry and Johannes are perfect hosts. der Alltag hat uns wieder, aber noch haben wir noch Vorrat an Sonne im Herzen. Es war wunderbar auf der Insel und vor allem auf "eurer" Insel. Wir haben uns sehr sehr wohl gefühlt! Ich hoffe ihr werdet nicht eingeschneit  in Berlin. Viel Spaß dort und erholt euch gut.

Und ja es stimmt was man über Euch gelesen und gesagt hat....es ist wie wenn man bei guten Freunden übernachtet (nur halt in einem eigenem Zimmer mit einem großartigen Bett und viel Luxus, Hygiene und einem großartigen Frühstück samt sehr feinem Bananenbrot)!

A tranquil haven in spectacular surroundings. Barry and Johannes, the hosts have perfected the art of being friendly, nothing is too much trouble, while at the same time being unobtrusive and allowing you to enjoy the lovely guesthouse as you wish. 2/3 times a week, you can enjoy a superb dinner with the other guests which we thought was excellent and very good value. It was the best meal we had in Madeira. All 3 of us, including our 16 year old son, loved our stay. Breakfast on the verandah overlooking the sea and surrounding hills cannot be beaten. We had high expectations and Summerplace surpassed them. I will be recommending this guesthouse to any friends who choose Madeira. I do hope we'll be back. |

A tranquil and sophisticated oasis, not only for the unique levada walks but also to totally relax in a warm and friendly atmosphere. From the moment we arrived we felt like long lost friends. We are sure we will return. We cannot conclude without mentioning the fantastic elegant meals.
We have had the privilege on our travels of eating some of the best food in the best locations - the meals we had here all ranked as some of the best we have had!

I spent 10 lovely days in this splendid guesthouse last year in June; I enjoyed the comfortable room, the nice breakfasts, the splendid cuisine in the evening, the excellent service by the hosts Barry and Johannes, the splendid, quiet location, ànd the good company of the other guests. I can only strongly recommend this lovely place.

Summerplace and the hosts Barry & Johannes are hard to fault really, but as a miserable so'n'so by nature, my instincts are to try and find something negative to say. So having racked my brain, the only criticism is, that due to the hosts insistence on offering wonderful breakfasts and dinners, and despite swimming every morning in the lovely pool and going on 8k trecks through the local hill's, I have arrived home 4 lbs heavier, which has messed up my strict diet.
So for this reason, I could not possibly recommend a stay at Summerplace.
Wonderful and truly professional hosts, a rustic and stunning location, great food and immaculate rooms and facilities are all well and good, but if you have to go back on the cabbage soup diet when you get home, it's a hard price to pay!!
Seriously, Gaby & I want to thank both of you for a truly wonderful stay. You are both Stars, and we will be back
again soon.

Lieber Johannes, lieber Barry!
Wir haben den 9-tägigen Aufenthalt in Eurem Gästehaus sehr genossen dank der ausgesprochen liebevollen und persönlichen Betreuung.
Das Gästehaus ist ein besonderer Ort, abseits von jeglichem Touristenstrom. Ruhig gelegen, sehr sauber, gediegenes Ambiente, es lädt einfach zum Wohlfühlen ein. Auf das Frühstück haben wir uns jeden Tag gefreut, Barry ist ein sehr innovativer "Eierkoch" und Johannes Marmeladen und Bananenbrot sind unübertrefflich.
Vielen Dank für Eure Gastfreundschaft, man fühlt sich willkommener Gast - und reist mit einem sehr guten Gefühl ab.

Man merkt sehr deutlich, dass dieses Guesthouse keine "Arbeit" fuer Euch darstellt, sondern dass Ihr es mit Leidenschaft und viel Liebe betreibt.
